The Baseball Project release "El Hombre/Harvey Haddix" 7" for RSD
Coming on Record Store Day 2012 is the first Euclid Sessions single recorded at Euclid Records NOLA. The Baseball Project, made up of Steve Wynn, Scott McCaughey, Peter Buck and Linda Pitmon, perform “El Hombre” a rockin’ little number that should become a major hit in Los Angeles this summer. The B-Side is “Harvey Haddix” a virtual who’s who from that small fraternity of pitchers that have pitched perfect games in the big leagues and the man who was left off said list. As far as I know, this is the only song that gives a shout out to former Indian and Brave Len Barker. The cover will be a lenticular 3-D design by artist Amelie Mancini.
The Minus 5 have covered "The Sutherland Brothers" Arms of Mary for the WFMU compilation CD "Super Hits Of the Seventies!". The only way to get this album is with a pledge of $75 or more to help support WFMU for the next year. More info on how to do that here.
The songs was recorded by Scott on December 6, 2011 at the Red Record Room in Portland, Oregon, with Peter Buck playing 12-string guitar and Scott doing everything else.
You can listen to the song on the player below here, the song start about 6:15 minutes into the show
by trying to update the news program i use for the site i most likely deleted the entire news archive. well seems the last backup i made was somewhere in 2008. i am truly sorry for that. seems we have to start over all again.
If you’ve been to a local show by the Decemberists, Death Cab for Cutie or Wilco over the past four years – or if you’ve witnessed on stage Robyn Hitchcock, John Wesley Harding or KMRIA, the Pogues cover band featuring members of the Decemberists, during that same time period, you’ve probably wondered who the cool-looking guy is with the unruly hair, huge grin and sunglasses.

If you’ve seen the Minus 5, a Northwest supergroup of sorts that typically includes R.E.M. guitarist Peter Buck, you already know that the individual in question is Scott McCaughey – one of the hardest-working and most beloved members of the Northwest music community.
